Trenton, FL

Trenton is the Gilchrist County seat in north-central Florida, with 2,015 residents in the 2020 census. US 129 is the town’s Main Street, running north toward Branford and south toward Chiefland, while State Road 26 meets it in the center. That crossroads gives Trenton a service-town role for a largely rural county: courthouse and county offices in town, farms, timber, springs, and river country outside the city limits. It’s also part of the Gainesville metro, though the local map is more county-seat than suburb.

Trenton Elementary and Trenton Middle High School keep the school network local, and the city sits near Gilchrist County’s springs and Suwannee River recreation areas. The city’s past is tied to the old Joppa post office, the county’s 1926 creation, and the vote that made Trenton the county seat. Today the practical rhythm is still road-based: US 129, State Road 26, city hall, school routes, and the county’s freshwater landscape all meet in a small center.
