Treynor, IA

Treynor is a Pottawattamie County city east of Council Bluffs, with roots in a late-1880s cluster of a general store, dance hall and saloon, and St. Paul's German Evangelical Church. The area was once known for its wolves, a detail preserved in the town's early shorthand before the post office gave the settlement its current name. Treynor Community School District serves the city and surrounding countryside, keeping school and town boundaries closely linked. A short-lived railroad reached Treynor in 1911, and the route toward Council Bluffs remains the larger regional reference point. Treynor is a small Iowa city whose local story comes from three early buildings, a wolf-country nickname, a brief railroad chapter, and a school district that still serves the surrounding rural map.
