Trilby, FL

Trilby is a small Pasco County community at the junction of U.S. 98, U.S. 301, and County Road 575, where the road from Dade City meets the Withlacoochee State Trail. The town was first called Macon, then took the Trilby name by the 1890s; the Macon post office followed in 1901. Its map still carries the old railroad pattern, with Trilby, Trilacoochee, and Lacoochee connected through the same rural corridor near the Withlacoochee State Forest.

The trail's southern terminus is the community's biggest present-day hook. The Greater Trilby Community Association maintains a community center, newsletter, food-bank and clothing programs, while churches and local groups fill in the social calendar. The old Trilby depot was moved to the Pioneer Florida Museum in Dade City, where it remains part of the area's railroad memory. Trilby is a place where a trailhead, a few highways, and a three-community association turn a small crossroads into a regional stop for cyclists, neighbors, and people exploring the forest.
