About Troy

Troy is a Cheshire County town west of Mount Monadnock, with its central village gathered around streams that merge into the South Branch of the Ashuelot River. Settled in 1762 and incorporated in 1815, the town grew from farms into a water-powered mill center; Troy Mills became one of New Hampshire's earliest textile manufacturers. The village center is now the Troy Village Historic District along Route 12, with Gap Mountain in the town's eastern geography. Troy is southwestern New Hampshire in a mill-and-mountain shape.
