Twisp, WA

Twisp is an Okanogan County town of 992 residents in the 2020 census at the confluence of the Twisp and Methow Rivers. The Methow Valley runs through the town toward the Columbia River and the North Cascades, so Twisp serves as the valley's main incorporated center. It began as Gloversville when Henry Glover platted the town in 1897, then took the Twisp name as the valley's roads and settlements grew. The rivers are close enough to remain part of the town's daily orientation. The current town map mixes river landscape, schools, and arts.

The Methow Valley Community Center houses the Twisp visitor center and helps serve communities across the valley, while the Methow Valley Farmers' Market and the town's certified arts district bring regular activity into the downtown blocks. Methow Valley Elementary and Liberty Bell Junior-Senior High are between Twisp and Winthrop, and the Independent Learning Center is in town. Twisp is a small river-confluence town whose civic and cultural life reaches well beyond its own boundary.
