About Tylertown

Tylertown is Walthall County's seat, first known as Magee Settlement after emigrants from South Carolina's Magee and Thornhill families arrived. J. Thornhill acquired land in 1816, and the community later gathered around Cullen Conerly's store, gristmill, sawmill, cotton gin, and post office. The place was called Conerly's from 1848 to 1879, then Tyler Town, before the name shortened to Tylertown in 1894. Tylertown is a south Mississippi county seat whose name keeps the trail of its earliest families and merchants in view.
