About Union City

Union City is a Randolph County city on the Indiana–Ohio line, laid out in 1849 beside the rail routes that made it a regional crossing point. The town’s two railroad histories—one tied to Pittsburgh, Chicago, and St. Louis, the other to Indianapolis, Muncie, and Columbus—gave rise to the “Hub City” nickname. A post office has operated here since 1852, and the Union City Commercial Historic District, passenger depot, public library, and school keep the older town center readable. Union City is the Indiana half of a twin city, with a state line, rail junction, historic storefronts, and adjoining schools defining the local map.
