Union Springs, AL

Union Springs is the seat of Bullock County, and its name comes from the 27 springs that once watered the land. The city grew in the Black Belt’s cotton country, then the Mobile and Girard Railway connected its trade toward Columbus after the Civil War. The springs are also tied to the Conecuh River, whose headwaters lie within the city limits. Union Springs still carries that layered map: county courthouse, old cotton wealth, railroad routes, and a water system under the town’s name. The local shorthand is southeastern Alabama, spring water, and a county-seat city with a preserved collection of historic homes and businesses.
