Union, WA

Union lies on the southern shore of Hood Canal's Great Bend in Mason County, near the mouth of the Skokomish River. State Route 106 is the main road, following the southeast shore toward Belfair and connecting south toward U.S. 101. The shoreline is a working waterfront: marinas, boat launches, shellfish, and shoreline homes sit alongside farms and roads, while the Olympic Mountains rise beyond the Skokomish drainage. The basin is the traditional territory of the Skokomish and Squaxin peoples, a history that belongs in the local map.

The community's current gathering points are closely tied to the canal. Union City Market operates from a historic marina on WA-106 with food, gifts, specialty groceries, and seasonal music, and public launches and nearby marinas keep boating and fishing connected to the road corridor. A working farm and roadside market add another layer to the same stretch of highway. Union is a water-facing community where the road, marina, river mouth, and tribal geography all meet in a narrow band along Hood Canal.
