Utica, NE

Utica is a Seward County village that began when the Burlington & Missouri Valley Railroad was extended to the spot. The name came from Utica, New York, but the local story is Nebraska prairie: a rail stop became a village, farm roads fed into it, and a school kept the community's center close. Utica sits in the Lincoln metropolitan area, but its everyday map is much more about Seward County fields than city life.

Centennial Public School is the local K-12 school, serving a rural district spread across parts of Seward, York, and Butler counties. The village's historic survey also preserves glimpses of Utica's older social life, when the railroad, school, churches, and Main Street businesses made the place a regular meeting point for nearby farms. A short drive across the county still brings people back toward the same school and village center.
