Utica, SC

Utica is a small Oconee County census-designated place east of Seneca, and its name carries the history of a textile village. The mill community east of Seneca was called Jordania, Lonsdale, and later Utica as ownership changed. That past still matters locally: Oconee County’s 2020 comprehensive plan singled out the Utica Mill site for possible adaptive reuse, treating the old industrial footprint as part of the county’s present planning conversation. The mill history gives the place a concrete local landmark.
