Vader, WA

Vader is a Lewis County city that started as a logging and clay-manufacturing town in the 1870s, first called Kraft and then Little Falls after the waterfall on Olequa Creek. It incorporated under the Little Falls name in 1906, but became Vader in 1913 after officials wanted to avoid confusion with Little Falls, Minnesota; residents eventually chose the name of early settler Martin Vader. The May Day Festival has been part of the calendar since 1952, with a maypole dance and parade. Vader is a southwest Washington city with a borrowed name and a waterfall that still gives the old one its context.
