About Val Verde Park
Val Verde Park is a Val Verde County census-designated place near Del Rio, in the dry Southwest Texas country close to the Rio Grande. The 2020 census counted 2,332 residents. The place sits inside the San Felipe Del Rio regional orbit, with Del Rio serving as the county seat and the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District serving local students. The name links the neighborhood to the county around it, but the daily map is Del Rio's.
Del Rio grew from San Felipe Creek, canals, and a farming village founded in 1868; the Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in 1882 and pushed the town into a larger regional role. Val Verde Park belongs to that same water-and-transportation landscape, with the spring-fed creek and the old canal system close by. The wider Del Rio map also includes Laughlin Air Force Base, while the border and Amistad country pull west. Val Verde Park is a small place with Del Rio, the creek, the school district, and the county's frontier history all in the background.
