Valatie, NY

Valatie is a quiet, scenic village of around 1,800 residents situated in northern Columbia County. Settled by the Dutch in the mid-1600s, the community gets its name from the Dutch word for "little falls," referring to the waterfalls that tumble right through the heart of town. Kinderhook Creek and the Valatie Kill once powered bustling textile and grist mills, and that historic character is still easy to spot in the old brick architecture and scenic waterfall overlooks along Main Street.
