About Valdez

Valdez is a city in the Chugach Census Area, Alaska, situated at the head of a deep fjord in Prince William Sound. Named in 1790 by Spanish explorer Salvador Fidalgo, the town has developed into a major commercial and sport fishing port. Valdez is also an active cultural center, hosting the annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference at Prince William Sound College, and is served by local radio broadcasters KCHU and KVAK.
