Vander, NC

Vander is an unincorporated community and census-designated place near the geographic center of Cumberland County, just east of Fayetteville and south of Eastover. The 2020 census counted 1,388 residents. Its roads sit in the overlap between Fayetteville’s outer edge and the county’s rural middle, with homes, farms, and long school routes spread across a mostly inland landscape. Cape Fear High School gives the community one of its clearest local landmarks. Most practical trips run toward Fayetteville, but Vander has its own everyday map: school traffic, county services, and the small crossroads that tie the surrounding countryside together.

The place is close enough to share the Fayetteville orbit while keeping an unincorporated, spread-out shape. Vander is a central Cumberland County community whose character comes from its position—between city edge, Eastover, and the broad farm roads running across the county. The surrounding roads connect farms, schools, and Fayetteville without pulling the community into a single center. That spread-out pattern is part of the local texture.
