Verona, PA

Verona is an Allegheny County borough along the left bank of the Allegheny River, about 13 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh. The 2020 census counted 2,492 residents. Its name combines the old Verner and Iona railroad stops, and that rail connection shaped the borough's early working map. Railroad shops, tool works, lumber yards, steel-casting and structural-iron works, and a chemical plant once operated here; Plum Creek still cuts through the borough on its way to the Allegheny. The old industrial story has a current civic layer.

Verona's downtown hosts the annual Car Cruise and a seasonal farmers market, and the Doughboy Statue stands near the borough center.
