Verplanck, NY

Tucked along the eastern shore of the Hudson River in the Town of Cortlandt, Verplanck is a quiet, tight-knit hamlet with a relaxed vibe. It sits right on the water between Montrose and Buchanan, laid out in an easy neighborhood grid where residential streets lead straight down to the riverbank. The area played a key role during the American Revolution as the site of the historic Kings Ferry crossing, and you can still spot markers and monuments highlighting that past as you walk through town.

Much of daily life here revolves around Cortlandt Waterfront Park, an expansive 30-acre green space right on the water. It features paved walking trails, a fishing pier, a boat launch, and open lawns with sweeping views across the Hudson toward Stony Point. Residents head down to row with the Cortlandt Community Rowing Association, walk dogs along the shore, or catch outdoor concerts and movie nights during the summer.
