About Vevay

Vevay is the Switzerland County seat on the Ohio River, founded by Swiss immigrants who arrived in 1802 intending to grow grapes and make wine. The town takes its name from Vevey, Switzerland, and the Dufour family's early vineyard experiment helped give the place its unusual county story. The Swiss Wine Festival keeps that connection on the calendar each August, with the river and State Roads 56 and 156 still doing the everyday map work. Vevay is a southeast Indiana town where Swiss roots, wine, and the Ohio River meet.
