Vicco, KY

Tucked into the hills of Eastern Kentucky along Carr Fork, Vicco is a quiet mountain community with a colorful past. Its name comes from the initials of the Virginia Iron, Coal and Coke Company, which established the town during the early days of coal mining. Decades ago, local families and miners packed into town for shopping, movie screenings, and a surprisingly lively weekend social scene. The community stepped into the national spotlight in 2013 when it became the smallest town in America to pass an anti-discrimination fairness ordinance.

Vicco dissolved its municipal government in 2025, with Perry County stepping in to manage local services and road maintenance.
