About Victor

Victor is an Iowa county town divided between Poweshiek and Iowa counties, with 875 residents in 2020. The community grew along the old Dragoon Trail, a route used by the Sac and Fox before Euro-American settlement and later followed by Mormon handcart travelers heading west from Iowa City. H-L-V Community School District is headquartered here, and Victor’s small downtown sits within an agricultural landscape along Interstate 80’s east-central Iowa corridor.

Depot in Victor Iowa

Two Rolle Bolle courts give Victor a distinctive local tradition: one indoors at The 214 Bar and Grill, another outdoors next to the post office. Rolle Bolle is played on a dirt court by rolling thick wooden or rubber discs toward a stake, a game whose Iowa history grew from Belgian immigrant communities. The Dragoon Trail and the courts connect older movement across the land with something residents still do together on weekends and holidays. Victor is a small school-and-farm town with an unusual recreational signature and a history that reaches from Indigenous trails to interstate travel.
