About Vienna

Vienna is a Lincoln Parish town whose main road puts it five miles north of Ruston on U.S. 63 and 167. It began with Daniel Colvin’s settlement around 1812, later served as Lincoln Parish’s first seat from 1873 to 1884, and saw Confederate troops drill at a camp established here in 1862. When a vote moved the parish seat to railroad town Ruston, Vienna’s courthouse role ended, but the town remained on the highway between Ruston and Bernice. Today its map is central Lincoln Parish, with Vienna still listed among the parish’s incorporated towns. Vienna is north Louisiana with a short county-seat chapter and a long road through it.
