View Park-Windsor Hills, CA

View Park's streets record a consequential change in Los Angeles housing history. The Los Angeles Investment Company built the planned hillside neighborhood from the 1920s into the 1960s for middle-income and affluent buyers, initially enforcing racially restrictive covenants. After those barriers were struck down, Black homeowners began moving into the district in the late 1950s, and View Park had become predominantly African American by the end of the 1960s. The National Park Service recognizes that transition, as well as the neighborhood's planning and architecture, through the View Park Historic District's listing in the National Register of Historic Places. View Park is one part of the unincorporated View Park–Windsor Hills census-designated place, which had 11,419 residents in 2020.

The View Park Bebe Moore Campbell Library and the Baldwin Hills park network provide the area's principal public gathering and recreation sites. The library has served the community since 1940 and has occupied its West 54th Street site since 1977. Renamed in 2015 for the local novelist and mental-health advocate, the renovated branch includes public computers, study space, murals, and works from the Golden State Mutual Art Collection. Among its 2026 programs were early-learning play sessions and an adult Bebe Moore Campbell Club combining books, journaling, and mental-wellness practices.

Outdoors, the small Monteith Park supplies seating and a play area and hosts an annual garden tour and fair; Reuben Ingold Parkway adds a linear green space with a fitness course. The Stocker Corridor Trail connects this neighborhood landscape to the larger Baldwin Hills system. Nearby Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area has picnic sites, playgrounds, a fishing lake, a community center, native coastal sage scrub, and miles of trails. It is also part of the 13-mile Park to Playa route, an uninterrupted walking, running, and bicycling corridor linking Baldwin Hills parks with the Pacific coast.
