Virginville, PA

Virginville is a census-designated place in Richmond Township, Berks County, at the junction of Pennsylvania Route 143 and Crystal Ridge Road, about seven miles south of Lenhartsville. The community is a linear village along Main Street, and its historic district was listed on the National Register in 2000. The district is recognized for Pennsylvania German-influenced rural architecture, including Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, and Italianate buildings.

Virginville grew quickly after a railroad stop opened beside a country store in 1874, giving the village a direct link to the region’s movement of people and goods. That rail-era arrangement still shapes the place a century later: older buildings line the road, while the surrounding Richmond Township supplies the broader rural setting. The district’s road-facing buildings make that designation legible at street level, even as the surrounding township remains rural. The Fleetwood school district and Kutztown postal address serve the community today. Virginville is a Berks County road village whose historic form remains its clearest local landmark.
