Vivian, LA

Vivian is a Caddo Parish town laid out along Louisiana 1, about 11 miles south of the Texas line and 30 miles north of Shreveport. The railroad is the reason the town is here: when the Kansas City Southern Railway arrived in 1898, people from nearby Caddo Lake communities moved toward the station, and Vivian grew around that connection. Oil later became part of the local work story, alongside commerce, transportation, schools, health care, and manufacturing.

The town’s calendar has one very recognizable marker: the Louisiana Redbud Festival, founded in 1964 and held each spring. North Caddo Library now operates from the former Vivian Elementary School, giving the old school building a second role in the town’s everyday life. Caddo Parish schools serve the area, while LA 1 remains the straight-line reference through the center.
