Waddington, NY

Waddington is a St. Lawrence County village and town on the northern edge of New York, where the St. Lawrence River forms the border with Canada and the Grasse River runs toward it from the east. Settlement began near the future village in 1797, and the village incorporated in 1839 while still part of the Town of Madrid. Waddington’s waterfront has always been practical: its harbor, islands, and river channels shaped shipping, fishing, and the small streets around Main and Maple.

Today the village office, docks, boat launch, town beach, and parks keep the water close to everyday life. Waddington is known among anglers for carp, bass, walleye, pike, and muskellunge, and fishing tournaments have repeatedly brought national attention to the St. Lawrence. Turn-of-the-century homes line the village streets, while the riverfront points north toward Ontario. The old harbor still gives the village its working orientation. Waddington is a border community with a working harbor feel, part village, part river town, and part gateway to the wide water.
