Wadesville, IN

Wadesville is a small Posey County community along State Road 66 in northern Center Township, northeast of Mount Vernon. It was laid out in 1852 and named for the Wade family, and its post office has served the 47638 address since 1855. The place now has a census-designated-place boundary, though it still feels like the kind of crossroads community whose identity is carried by a road, a post office, and the people who use both.

School history gives Wadesville a strong local thread. The old Wadesville High School teams were the Red Devils, and the school once covered grades one through twelve. In the late 1950s, Wadesville joined with Poseyville, Cynthiana, and Griffin in the consolidation that produced North Posey High School. The current MSD of North Posey County serves the surrounding rural area through North Posey High, North Posey Junior High, North Elementary, and South Terrace Elementary, whose address is in Wadesville. State Road 66 still points toward Mount Vernon in one direction and Poseyville in the other, while the school system ties the scattered communities together.
