Wahiawa, HI

Lake Wilson surrounds Wahiawā on three sides, an unusual setting in Hawaiʻi, where lakes and reservoirs are scarce. Kamehameha Highway crosses the reservoir’s narrow northern and southern arms on the two bridges into town, then continues toward Oʻahu’s North Shore. Wahiawā occupies the island’s central plateau between its two principal volcanic ranges and had 18,658 residents in 2020. Its name is translated as “place of the wā people.” Major military installations around the community include Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Airfield, and the Army’s East Range; within Wahiawā, the Navy operates Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific. Wilikina Drive bypasses the CDP and connects Wheeler and Schofield with Kamehameha Highway and Kaukonahua Road.
