Wahpeton is a Dickinson County city in Iowa’s Great Lakes region, sitting on West Okoboji Lake with Gull Point State Park inside its city limits. The park’s 1933 CCC-era lodge is the standout landmark, while the lakeshore also hosts the Lakeshore Center at Okoboji, Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, and Camp Okoboji. That gives Wahpeton an unusual mix of city streets, summer-camp grounds, and state-park shoreline. The city is part of the Okoboji school district, but the lake is what puts it on the map.
