Named after the clear natural springs in the area, the neighborhood is shaped by open farmland, winding country roads, and multi-generational family properties. The heart of the area sits where Oxendine Elementary School and Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church face each other across the road. Community leaders Luther and Susan Oxendine originally donated the land for both institutions over a century ago. Today, the school and church continue to anchor the community, serving as central gathering spots and keeping local Lumbee traditions thriving.
