About Waldo
Waldo is a Russell County city on U.S. 281, within the county's network of rural towns and highways. The Union Town Company established it on October 1, 1888, using land purchased from the Union Pacific Railroad. Waldo developed as an agricultural shipping and receiving point for the surrounding area. A museum in the Waldo Senior Center preserves local stories, giving the town a current place for its railroad and farm history. Waldo's local identity is built from a railroad beginning, an agricultural shipping role, and a continuing connection to Russell County's rural network.
