Waldo, WI

Waldo lies along the Onion River in Sheboygan County, where a nineteenth-century settlement grew between fertile farmland and the waterway that gave it an early name. The community began as Onion River in 1849 and became Waldo, an incorporated village, in 1923; the older Onion River name then faded from municipal use. A grist mill on the river represents the kind of work that shaped the village, turning local grain, waterpower, and road traffic into a small commercial center.

Today Waldo sits within the Sheboygan metropolitan area while keeping a rural village scale. The Onion River still runs through the community, and nearby Kettle Moraine country adds trails, wetlands, and outdoor recreation to the farm landscape.
