About Walker

Walker is Cass County's seat on the southwest corner of Leech Lake, where the water makes the town feel bigger than its population. The settlement incorporated in 1896, and the first excursion train arrived that same year, bringing visitors into what was becoming a lake-and-lumber town. The area's deeper history includes the Leech Lake Ojibwe and the 1898 Battle of Sugar Point; the Cass County Museum helps tell that story today. The Paul Bunyan State Trail runs through town, too. Walker is north-central Minnesota in a lake-and-rail shape.
