About Wallace

Wallace is Shoshone County’s seat in Idaho’s Silver Valley, founded in 1884 beside the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River. Mining and railroading are still written into the town’s downtown: the Wallace District Mining Museum follows the region’s century-plus mining story, and the Northern Pacific Depot Museum keeps the railroad chapter on display. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes passes through town on a former rail line. Wallace is a mountain county seat with a working river valley, two museum threads, and a rail trail running through its old mining country.
