Wallis, TX

Wallis is an Austin County city along State Highway 36 and the BNSF Railway between Sealy and Rosenberg. The first Anglo-American settlers arrived in the area between the Brazos and San Bernard rivers in 1830, and the post office that appeared in 1873 was first called Bovine Bend. William Guyler later sold 100 acres to the railroad for a right-of-way and townsite, and the community was renamed Wallis for a railroad vice president. Brazos Independent School District serves the city, with Brazos High School here. Wallis is a southeast Texas rail-and-highway town with a cattle-era post-office name and a railroad name layered on top.
