Wallowa, OR

Sitting in northeastern Oregon with wide mountain views, Wallowa is a small town deeply tied to its Nez Perce heritage. Every July, the community hosts Tamkaliks, a three-day celebration and Friendship Feast that welcomes Nez Perce descendants back to their ancestral homeland. The weekend features traditional song and dance, a horse parade, and shared meals, honoring the area's history after the forced removal of the tribe in the late 1800s. It is one of the valley's most meaningful annual traditions and a central part of living here.
