Walsenburg is an incorporated statutory city and the county seat of Huerfano County, Colorado, situated along the Cucharas River near Lathrop State Park. Settled in 1859 as La Plaza de los Leones and framed by the Spanish Peaks, the historic coal trading city of approximately 3,072 is served by Huerfano School District Re-1 locally.
