Walthourville, GA

Walthourville is a small, quiet community in Liberty County, sitting just south of Hinesville and Fort Stewart. Home to around 3,700 residents, it offers a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by coastal Georgia pines and open country roads. The town dates back to the late 1700s, when it was settled by physician Andrew Walthour, and it has kept its unhurried, rural feel ever since.

The city also has a notable place in state history. When it incorporated in 1974, it did so with an all-female government, and in 1978 voters elected Carrie Kent as Georgia's first Black female mayor. Today, Walthourville serves mainly as a peaceful, affordable home base for military families and local commuters. Children attend Liberty County schools, and nearby Hinesville provides easy access to supermarkets, healthcare, and dining for all the everyday essentials.
