Wamsutter, WY

Wamsutter is a small, quiet outpost in southwestern Wyoming, sitting right along Interstate 80 roughly halfway between Rawlins and Rock Springs. Known as the Gateway to the Red Desert, it has deep roots as a historic railroad stop and has long served as a rugged home base for natural gas and pipeline workers. Life here is defined by big open horizons, passing freight trains, and miles of windswept high desert in every direction.

The community itself is compact, centered around a few residential streets, local travel stops, and Desert School, which serves kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. The pace is simple and quiet, where people quickly get on a first-name basis with their neighbors. While major grocery runs and errands mean a 45-minute drive down the interstate, living here puts endless public land, roaming wildlife, and incredible star-filled night skies right outside your front door.
