About Warner Robins

Warner Robins took shape in 1942 as the farming community of Wellston was renamed for Army Air Corps General Augustine Warner Robins. That same year, Wellston Army Air Depot opened; it soon became Warner Robins Army Air Depot and ultimately Robins Air Force Base. The base’s maintenance and logistics mission drove the city’s postwar growth, although the installation itself lies just outside city limits across U.S. 129. Warner Robins spans Houston and Peach counties, about 20 miles south of Macon. Next to the base, the Museum of Aviation presents this history through aircraft, ground vehicles, and exhibits on subjects including the Tuskegee Airmen and Operation Desert Storm.
