Warren, IL

Warren is a Jo Daviess County village on State Highway 78 and the historic Stagecoach Trail, in the rolling northwest Illinois country near the Wisconsin line. Captain Alexander Burnett built a log cabin at Main and Water Streets in 1843, and the village took its name from Warren Burnett, the first male child born at the site. The 1851 stagecoach stop still stands as the Warren Community Building, giving the center a physical reminder of the road era that helped put the village on the map.

Today the village's calendar and Main Street do much of the social work. The Pumpkin Festival arrives on the last weekend of September with a parade, arts and crafts, and fall produce, while local shops and restaurants cluster around the downtown blocks. State Highway 78 carries through traffic toward Stockton and Galena, but the Stagecoach Trail is the more evocative route, tying Warren to the older east-west travel pattern across Jo Daviess County. It is a small farming-region village with a preserved stage stop, a seasonal festival, and a downtown that still knows how to gather people.
