Warren, IN

Warren is a Huntington County town along the Salamonie River, southeast of I-69. It began as Jonesboro, platted in 1833 by Samuel Jones, and developed along the river and the routes connecting southeastern Huntington County. The waterway still gives Warren its first orientation, while the Salamonie Valley Museum keeps the town's local history in view. Warren also holds a collection honoring the USS Salamonie, a Navy fleet oiler whose name links this Indiana town to a much larger maritime story.

School life gives the town a daily center. Salamonie School serves students through fifth grade, and older students continue through the Huntington County Community School Corporation after the former township high school joined the county system in 1966. Main Street, the museum, the river, and the nearby interstate make Warren a compact service place for the surrounding countryside. It is an Indiana river town with a nineteenth-century beginning, a school that remains in town, and a museum collection that reaches from the Salamonie Valley to the decks of a naval ship.
