Warren, MA

Warren is a town in Worcester County built along the Quaboag River. The 2020 census counted 4,975 residents, spread between the villages of Warren and West Warren. The town began as part of Quaboag Plantation, spent 68 years within Brookfield, and was incorporated in 1741 as Western before taking the name Warren. Those old names still help make sense of the place: this is a river-valley town whose history is tied to mills, roads, and the changing shape of central Massachusetts.

The Quaboag remains the through line. It runs through the center of town, passes Lucy Stone Park, and has influenced both industry and flood-control work. Warren Pumps, which began operating in 1897, carries that industrial tradition into the present through pump manufacturing. The result is a place with two recognizable centers and a strong relationship to the river between them. A day in Warren can move from village streets to the Quaboag’s wooded edges quickly, with the town’s older industrial history still visible in the landscape.
