Warrenton, NC

Warrenton is the Warren County seat, founded and incorporated in 1779 when 100 lots and public squares were laid out. The town grew wealthy from tobacco and cotton trade between 1840 and 1860, and architects Jacob Holt and A. G. Jones left behind Federal, Greek Revival, and Italianate houses. That legacy fills the Warrenton Historic District, established in 1976 and covering nearly half the town with more than 300 structures. U.S. Routes 158 and 401 now bring traffic through the same county-seat center.

Today's Warrenton still does its business around the historic core. Town Hall, the Warren County Memorial Library, courthouse-square festivals, and downtown shops sit within the same compact map; local businesses occupy former drugstores, hardware stores, and a car showroom. The town's annual calendar includes Eastern Bluebird Fest in April, the Harvest Moon Festival in October, and the Christmas parade in December. Hayley-Haywood Park adds a walking trail and nine-hole disc-golf course beside the school complex.
