Warrenville, SC

Warrenville is an Aiken County census-designated place in historic Horse Creek Valley, just south of Graniteville and within the Augusta, Georgia metropolitan area. The 2010 census counted 1,233 residents. Its story is tied to the mill-village landscape of the valley, where the roads and old school grounds still show the shape of community life. In 2008, Warrenville, Graniteville, and Vaucluse considered forming one municipality; the referendum lost by a two-to-one margin, leaving the communities as separate places.

The historic Warrenville Elementary School is the place to look for the town's most visible piece of that past. Originally Warrenville Graded School, the building was constructed in 1925 in a Classical Revival style and educated children from the nearby textile mill villages. It entered the National Register in 2002 for its architecture and social history. Today, Warrenville Elementary is part of Aiken County's public school district, and the local library belongs to the ABBE Regional Library System. Warrenville is a compact valley community where textile-era buildings, school life, and the old question of local boundaries remain part of the conversation.
