About Wasco

Wasco is a Kern County city on the floor of the San Joaquin Valley, where California State Routes 43 and 46 meet. Agriculture is central to the local economy, especially the growing of rose bushes, which gives Wasco one of its more memorable identities. The city's early name, Dewey, honored Admiral George Dewey of Spanish-American War fame before the community became Wasco. Today it is a practical valley city surrounded by fields, rail lines, highways, and the water-dependent agricultural landscape that defines much of Kern County.
