Washington Park, NC

Washington Park is a Beaufort County town on the north shore of the Pamlico River, separated from the adjoining City of Washington by Runyon Creek. The North Carolina legislature incorporated it in 1923, after Dr. John Small developed the area as a residential subdivision. The original plan included 217 home sites, and the town's edges remain defined by Maple Branch, Runyon Creek, the river, and the county line of streets.

The waterfront park is the center of the town's calendar, used for recreation and the annual resident potluck. Washington Park contracts fire and EMS service from the City of Washington, receives law enforcement through the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, and gets water through the Beaufort County Water District. Those arrangements make the town's small footprint part of its story: residents live on the river, gather at one main park, and share regional services with their larger neighbor across the creek. Washington Park is a Pamlico-side community with a municipal life built around water, contracts, and a familiar shoreline.
