About Waterford

Waterford is a historic village in western Loudoun County, built around Catoctin Creek and a mill complex established by Quaker settlers in the 1730s. Flour milling gave the place its first industrial footing, and the village grew into one of Loudoun’s larger communities before the Civil War. The Waterford Historic District now covers the village and surrounding landscape; it was listed on the National Register in 1969 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970. Waterford is a Virginia village where creek, mill, farms, and carefully held 18th- and 19th-century buildings still read as one connected place.
