Waterloo, NE

Waterloo is a Douglas County village whose town plan grew alongside the Union Pacific. John Logan and Elias Kelsey bought the land in 1868, and the railroad helped place the depot in the center of town before Waterloo incorporated in 1883. The Elkhorn River runs along the village, and the town’s seed business became part of its early identity. Waterloo is western Nebraska’s Omaha-side crossroads in a neat old arrangement: railroad depot, river edge, grain and seed, and a main street that has seen the water rise.
