Waterman, IL

Waterman is a quiet rural village in DeKalb County, home to around 1,400 people. Driving in along Route 30, you are greeted by open skies, wide-open cornfields, and the towering grain bins that anchor the community. It got its start in the 1870s as a railroad stop, and that strong connection to local farming and seed production still shapes everyday life here today.

Much of the local charm centers on Lions Park, famous for decades as the home of the Waterman and Western, a handcrafted miniature train that carried generations of families around the grounds. Even after losing the train to a fire in 2021, the park remains the town's favorite spot for summer festivals and weekend ballgames. It is a peaceful, down-to-earth community where neighbors know each other and the surrounding farmland sets a relaxed pace.
